Why being recognised as Highly Commended in the Best Places to Work for Women matters
We believe that creating a workplace where everyone can succeed isn’t just the right thing to do, but essential for delivering a better energy future.
That’s why we’re incredibly proud to have been named one of the UK’s Top 10 Best Places to Work by The Sunday Times for the second year running, alongside receiving a ‘Highly Commended’ recognition in the Best Places to Work for Women category.
This recognition is particularly meaningful because it comes directly from our colleagues. It reflects the lived experience of people across our business and the inclusive, supportive culture they’re helping to shape every day.
Creating a place where women can belong and grow
Being recognised as a Best Place to Work for Women, especially in a traditionally male‑dominated sector like energy, is something we’re immensely proud of. But more than that, it’s a sign of the progress being made to break down barriers, widen access to opportunity and ensure more women can build fulfilling careers in our industry.
We know there’s always more to do. What matters is that we continue to listen, learn and take meaningful action, creating an environment where women feel supported at every stage of their lives and careers.
From early careers through to leadership, we’re seeing positive change. Over recent years, improvements in gender balance at executive level and equitable promotion rates for women reflect the impact of sustained focus and targeted development opportunities.
Support that reflects real lives
A key part of creating a great place to work for women is recognising that no two journeys are the same.
That’s why we’ve designed policies and support that reflect real life – not a one‑size‑fits‑all approach. From enhanced parental leave available to all parents, to unlimited paid fertility leave, neonatal leave and support for pregnancy loss, our approach is built around inclusion and flexibility.
We’re also creating safe spaces for open conversations. Initiatives such as menopause cafés and fertility support programmes ensure colleagues feel seen, heard and supported on topics that have historically been overlooked.
Our Fast Forward development network, focused on supporting women’s career progression, now has more than 1,700 members. Based on the experiences of our network members, we’ve shone a light on the most common challenges women face throughout their careers. This insight was used to develop our Women in Leadership development programme and the basis for changes to our recruitment and flexible working approaches.
And continuing through colleague‑led inclusion networks, with over 4,500 members across nine communities, women across the business are helping to drive real, positive change.
Building confidence, careers and community
Empowering women at work isn’t just about policy – it’s about opportunity.
Our learning and development programmes are designed to help colleagues build skills, grow in confidence and progress their careers. From apprenticeships and coaching to open‑access development networks and tailored programmes for underrepresented talent, we’re focused on unlocking potential at every level.
At the same time, flexible working options available from day one. Including hybrid working, part-time roles and job sharing, we ensure careers can grow alongside life outside work. The result is an environment where women don’t just join E.ON: they stay, develop and lead.
An inclusive culture that benefits everyone
While being Highly Commended focuses on women, it reflects something broader about who we are as a business. Inclusion isn’t a standalone initiative: it’s embedded in everything we do. It shapes how we support our people, how we collaborate and how we deliver for our customers.
Whether it’s developing digital tools that make energy simpler, powering homes and hospitals, or driving the UK’s energy transition, our colleagues are united by a shared purpose: to make new energy work for everyone.
And it’s that sense of purpose, combined with a culture of belonging and support, that enables people to do their best work.
Recognition that belongs to our people
Awards like these are important. But they’re also a reflection of something deeper: the everyday actions, conversations and commitments that shape our culture.
Being named a Top 10 Best Place to Work, and Highly Commended as a Best Place to Work for Women, is something we all share. It belongs to every colleague who contributes to making E.ON a place where people feel valued, respected and empowered.
Together, we’re building a workplace where everyone, including women across all backgrounds and experiences, can succeed.
And as we continue our journey, we remain committed to going further: listening to our people, breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for everyone.
