E.ON UK responds to Government plans to decouple gas from the price of electricity

Responding to Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) plans to break the influence of gas on electricity pricesChris Norbury, CEO of E.ON UK, said:

"We welcome the Government's decision to decouple gas from the price of electricity. For too long, the value in our energy system has flowed to those at the top of the chain. Today's move starts to turn that around.

"The real prize is putting customers in control. Steerable assets like home and business batteries, smart tariffs and targeted help let households and businesses use cheap, clean power when it's abundant and earn from it when it's not. Benefits that are built around the customer, not extracted from them.

"We also welcome the planning reforms announced today. The real way to make sure communities benefit directly from clean power is solar on the roofs of our schools, hospitals and public buildings or extending access to innovative projects like our solar sharing communities. That's clean power delivered where people live and work without unnecessary infrastructure costs, cutting bills for the services they rely on and a benefit communities can see and feel.

"Structural reform takes time, so we need to keep accelerating that ambition too. Immediate help today, customer-led reform for tomorrow. That's what making new energy work for everyone really looks like."
