E.ON and The Archer Project team up to support green skills and employment pathways across Sheffield
E.ON and Sheffield-based homeless charity The Archer Project have announced plans to join forces to support green skills and employment pathways for people across the city.
The two organisations have agreed to explore how they can work together – calling on E.ON’s plans to expand its district heating scheme in Sheffield, alongside its wider energy solutions activity in the area – as a way to develop opportunities in green jobs and skills through volunteering and employment pathways.
The Archer Project, based at Sheffield Cathedral, is a place where people experiencing homelessness in the wider area can change their lives for the better. This collaboration will bring together a joint commitment to deliver fair access to green jobs, while supporting sustainability and energy resilience for the local community.
Jean Michel Bellas, Strategic Relationship Lead at E.ON for Blackburn Meadows and Sheffield’s Heat Network Programme, said: “Our collaboration with the Archer Project is designed to be another part of our commitment to inclusivity and fair access to opportunities in the growing green energy sector. We hope this initiative will empower individuals through meaningful training and mentoring to develop the skills they need for the new energy world, offering a sense of purpose and opportunity while helping to advance sustainable energy for Sheffield.”
Through the agreement E.ON will also offer the centre guidance on low carbon solutions, such as solar panels and heat pumps, with the aim of helping them to operate in a more sustainable, energy efficient way.
Joe Logan, Head of Fundraising at The Archer Project, said:“We are incredibly excited about our future working in partnership with E.ON. This collaboration gives us the opportunity to explore new ways of creating positive change across our community. Together, we will open new pathways of progression for people experiencing homelessness and in turn, empower individuals to live happier, more fulfilling lives.”
Over the coming months, E.ON and The Archer Project will aim to work together to co-design training and support programmes, as well as creating volunteering opportunities for E.ON colleagues.
E.ON’s district heating scheme is powered by the Blackburn Meadows renewable energy plant and supports Sheffield’s ambitions to become a zero-carbon city by 2030. This is one of the first formal social value partnerships E.ON has in place in the city.
