E.ON colleagues conquer the Great North Run for fuel poverty charity, National Energy Action

From Newcastle city centre to the seafront in South Shields, 60,000 runners took on the Great North Run – among them, 30 E.ON colleagues running to power change for communities in need.

With the Red Arrows soaring overhead and crowds cheering them on, 30 E.ON colleagues took on the world’s biggest half marathon, the Great North Run, and crossed the finish line in South Shields after 13.1 miles.

Together, they’ve raised £11,666 for National Energy Action (NEA), the UK’s leading fuel poverty charity, helping to ensure no one has to choose between heating their home and putting food on the table.

The Great North Run is the world's largest half marathon, comprised of 60,000 runners. The 13.1-mile route begins in Newcastle city centre, crosses the iconic Tyne Bridge, and finishes along the seafront in South Shields. Its core purpose is to celebrate sport, community and endurance, while raising millions of pounds each year for thousands of charities. It is as much about participation and spirit as it is about competition.

By taking part, E.ON’s colleagues turned their own goals into vital support for households struggling with fuel poverty, showing how small individual actions can add up to a powerful collective impact. We are proud to support inspiring events like the Great North Run and the Superhero Tri 2025, celebrating determination, community spirit, and the power of people coming together to achieve great things.

Supporting National Energy Action

The National Energy Action is the national fuel poverty charity which provides direct support, campaigns for fairer policies and training for frontline workers. E.ON is committed to making energy fairer and more sustainable for everyone, which is why we proudly support National Energy Action during their vital work to end fuel poverty and ensure that households across the country can afford to stay both warm and fed.

Jess Irwin, Fundraising Manager at National Energy Action said: "We’re incredibly grateful to the 30 amazing runners who took on the Great North Run 2025 in support of National Energy Action, raising over £11,000! Their dedication and the generosity of everyone who donated will make a real difference to the people we support. As we head into the colder months, this kind of support is more vital than ever in helping us tackle fuel poverty and ensure vulnerable households can stay warm and safe this winter. A big thank you to the team at E.ON and well done on your amazing achievement!"

Every year, runners raise incredible amounts for National Energy Action and this year colleagues from E.ON raised an incredible £11,666. The money will help National Energy Action support more households in fuel poverty by providing a voice, campaigning for change and fairness in energy, and offering direct support where it’s needed most.

For E.ON, taking part means more than running in a half marathon – it’s about standing alongside the communities we serve, supporting vulnerable households, and tackling fuel poverty. By running for National Energy Action, our colleagues have demonstrated how we can channel energy and effort into creating positive change - helping to build a fairer, more sustainable future for everyone.

Empowering communities and driving a fairer energy future

Supporting initiatives like the Great North Run reflects our wider mission to lead the energy transition while empowering the communities we serve. Just as E.ON invests in cleaner, greener energy solutions, we also back efforts that tackle inequality, support people in need and celebrate community resilience.

By bringing sustainability and community spirit together, we’re proving that energy can be a real force for positive change – and we’ll keep working to build a fairer, brighter future for everyone.
