Breaking barriers and breaking records at the Superhero Tri 2025
In August, more than 5,000 Everyday Superheroes and Sidekicks descended on Dorney Lake, Windsor for the Superhero Tri powered by Marvel – the UK’s only mass-participation sports series designed specifically for people with disabilities.
Founded by Paralympian Sophia Warner, the event once again proved that when inclusion takes centre stage, extraordinary things happen. And we were proud to get colleagues involved with the event as part of our wider commitment to diversity and inclusion.
With no cut-off times and no equipment restrictions, participants were free to take on the challenge in their own way – whether swimming, wheeling, biking or running, or even by creating their own unique gadgets and costumes. The result was a vibrant celebration of empowerment, determination and joy, where the focus was firmly on what people can do.
E.ON’s commitment in action
For E.ON, the Superhero Tri provided the perfect way to get involved with a trailblazing event while showcasing our ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion. We were proud to offer colleagues the opportunity to participate alongside family, friends and supporters.
‘Our Super Planet’ theme
This year’s theme, Our Super Planet, encouraged everyone to reconnect with nature and celebrate the wonders of the natural world. Against the stunning backdrop of Dorney Lake, participants embraced eco-inspired costumes, green team names and a sense of adventure that echoed E.ON’s mission to create a sustainable energy future. It was a reminder that inclusion and sustainability are deeply connected – both about building a better world for everyone.
Scott Somerville, Director of External Affairs at E.ON, said: “The Superhero Tri is an incredible reminder of what can be achieved when barriers are removed and inclusion comes first. Seeing so many Everyday Superheroes out on the course was truly inspiring, and it reflects our belief at E.ON that no one should be left behind — whether in sport or in the transition to a greener, more sustainable future. Just as this event celebrates the power of people, we’re committed to getting involved in many different initiatives to make sure we help everyone thrive.”
Sporting heroes and celebrity moments
The atmosphere was electric as Paralympic champions including Will Bayley, Laura Sugar and James Ball joined Everyday Superheroes at the start line. Crowds were also treated to the popular Celebrity Superhero Tri Relay, which saw stars from sport and screen race side by side with participants, creating unforgettable memories and reinforcing the spirit of teamwork at the heart of the event.
Sophia Warner, Paralympian and Founder of the Superhero Series, said: “A huge thank you from all of us at Mission HQ for everything you did to help make the Superhero Tri 2025 such a spectacular success. None of it would have been possible without E.ON and our other partners – your involvement means the world. We truly smashed it in every way, and the whole day felt bigger, brighter and more super than ever before.”
Record-breaking achievements
The 2025 Superhero Tri marked a record-breaking year. More than 5,100 participants and Sidekicks took part, while spectator numbers grew by 15% compared to last year. Over 700 Everyday Superheroes entered the water – a 20% increase on 2024 – and 14 Celebrity Team Captains, including nine newcomers, brought extra excitement to the course. In addition, 48 Charity Friends raised an incredible £300,000, while Super Partner support ensured that 80% of participant places were subsidised, making the event more accessible than ever before.
For spectators, there were more interactive experiences than in any previous year, helping to create a festival atmosphere and ensuring that the day was as enjoyable for families and friends as it was for those competing.
More than just sport
Reflecting on the day, it was clear that the Superhero Tri is not simply about sport. It is about creating spaces where people with disabilities can be themselves, call the shots and inspire others to see beyond barriers. For E.ON, getting involved in this event is part of our mission to shine a light on inclusion – a commitment also explored through initiatives like our immersive OffCentre experience, which helps colleagues better understand and appreciate the experiences of people with disabilities.
Celebrating everyday superheroes
The Superhero Tri 2025 was a true celebration of Everyday Superheroes – a powerful reminder that when we remove obstacles, provide support and encourage participation, people’s superpowers shine through. Just as the event showed that no one should be left behind when it comes to sport, at E.ON we believe no one should be left behind in the transition to a greener future. Our commitment to green energy goes hand in hand with our focus on inclusion, ensuring that as we build a more sustainable world, we do so in a way that is accessible, fair and empowering for everyone.
