Emma Lowe

Every role has a part to play in the transition to a new energy world

We spoke to Emma Lowe, Digital Content Executive, as part of our series highlighting green jobs at E.ON to find out more about how she’s helping E.ON deliver the energy transition and inspiring future generations.

“To me, a green job is any role that helps to reduce the environmental impact on our planet and positively contributes to a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future for everyone,” that’s what Emma Lowe, Digital Content Executive at E.ON, believes.

She goes onto explain: “For me, all jobs at E.ON are green jobs – whether it’s installing smart meters or solar panels on homes to creating digital content – we’re all working towards to the same goal and every role has a part to play in the transition to a new energy world.”

Emma has worked at E.ON for almost 17 years in roles spanning resourcing, employer branding, coaching and her current role in our External Affairs team managing digital content and projects for our eonenergy.com website.

“I plan, design, create and optimise digital content for our website, representing the E.ON brands to our customers, audiences and stakeholders. A key part of my role is showcasing how we’re making new energy work for homes, businesses, communities and whole cities. I communicate all the great things E.ON does and stands for – this could be anything from our innovative products and solutions, to our partnerships to how we’re inspiring green careers through our educational platform – New Energy Academy.”

Emma is right at the heart of our mission to make new energy work. We can’t expect to bring everyone on the transition to a more affordable and sustainable energy future without communicating what we’re doing it and how people can get involved.

From our Strategic Energy Partnership with Coventry City Council and our partnerships with The FA and Greener Game decarbonisation fund to how we’re inspiring the younger generation with the green skills needed to thrive in a more sustainable future, Emma helps communicate it all.

“It’s my role to drive awareness and bring all of these amazing things to life on our website by creating engaging, informative and accessible content that connects with our audience and helps everyone understand how they can contribute to the new energy world.”

Inspiring future generations

Emma knows the power we can all have on future generations and it’s something she’s passionate about supporting in her work life.

“The actions we take today impact future generations for years to come. As a mum to two young children, it’s important to me that we do all that we can to leave the world in a better place and inspire young people to be part of that change too, be it through how they live day-to-day to the career choices they make.”

And that’s where our New Energy Academy comes in. Emma was an integral part of the team that brought our new collection of educational resources, developed in partnership with teachers, to life.

In fact, it’s one of Emma’s standout highlights from her career. Why? That’s easy for Emma to explain: “Our New Energy Academy is designed to empower pupils aged 11+ with the skills and inspiration needed to lead the charge toward a more sustainable future and spark interest in both sustainability and energy. I’m proud to be helping young people to develop the skills needed in future green careers, such as creative problem solving, adaptability and resilience.”

This was really brought home for Emma during our in-person event to launch the New Energy Academy, who describes seeing the hub activities in action as another of her career highlights.

“It was great to see the energy and excitement from children who left the event with a clearer idea of the importance of sustainability, green skills and how they could develop them, as well as hearing the inspiring career journey from Fara Williams MBE.”

Green skills and future careers

When looking to the future, Emma sees plenty of opportunities arising from the energy transition.

“The future energy world is constantly evolving – and so are the types of jobs, skills and opportunities that come with it. Green skills and green jobs are critical in this change and creating a sustainable future for everyone.”

And she proudly explains our New Energy Academy is set up to help develop the skills needed to succeed in these future green careers and enable everyone to have the opportunity to contribute to a more sustainable planet.

What are these skills exactly? “Everything from communication, critical thinking and empathy to creative problem solving, adaptability and resilience will be critical skills needed to thrive in a greener future,” says Emma.

And her advice for others looking to build a green career is simple. “Be curious and keep learning. Ask questions, follow what you enjoy and what sparks your interest. The energy world and careers are constantly changing, and so will the opportunities that come with it.”
