E.ON talent recognised at Nottingham Trent University’s Annual Apprenticeship Awards

E.ON has been recognised at Nottingham Trent University’s Apprenticeship Awards 2026 after being shortlisted in all four entered categories, winning the Equality and Diversity Award and receiving two highly commended recognitions for apprentices and mentoring excellence.

E.ON has been recognised for its commitment to developing future talent after a successful evening at Nottingham Trent University’s annual Apprenticeship Awards.

Shortlisted in all four categories we entered, E.ON took home the Equality and Diversity Award and received two highly commended recognitions.

The awards celebrate employers, apprentices and mentors who are making a difference through apprenticeship programmes and supporting the next generation of skilled professionals.

E.ON’s achievements included:

  • Equality and Diversity Award – winners
  • First Year Apprentice of the Year – Areeba Hussain, highly commended
  • Apprentice Mentor of the Year – Sam Harding, highly commended
  • Outstanding Apprentice of the Year (Financial, Legal and Business Services) – Raees Khan, shortlisted

The recognition reflects E.ON’s ongoing investment in apprenticeships and the role they play in helping build the diverse skills needed to support the energy transition.

Our apprentices bring fresh thinking, new perspectives and a huge amount of passion to the work we do. As we continue helping customers and communities navigate the energy transition, investing in early careers and creating inclusive opportunities has never been more important. These awards are recognition not only of the apprentices themselves, but also of the colleagues across E.ON who give their time and energy to support them to succeed.

Sam Harding’s recognition as highly commended Apprentice Mentor of the Year particularly highlights the impact colleagues across the business are making by supporting apprentices to succeed.

Sam mentored former apprentice Raees Khan, who successfully completed his digital marketing apprenticeship before moving into E.ON’s Go To Market team.

Speaking about the awards success, Jane Branscombe, Early Careers Talent Consultant
said: “Apprenticeships are a vital part of how we develop future talent and create opportunities for people from all backgrounds to build rewarding careers at E.ON.

We’re incredibly proud to see our colleagues and apprentices recognised by Nottingham Trent University. Winning the Equality and Diversity Award and seeing individuals such as Areeba, Sam and Raees acknowledged is testament to the supportive culture we continue to build across the business.

It really does take a village to support degree apprentices and help them thrive. The commitment shown by colleagues who choose to dedicate their time to mentoring and development plays a huge role in helping apprentices grow their confidence, skills and careers.”

Looking forward to the future

E.ON continues to work with education partners including Nottingham Trent University to create opportunities for apprentices across a range of disciplines, helping to develop the skills needed for the future energy system.

The company’s apprenticeship programmes are part of its wider ambition to support people in powering the energy transition — equipping colleagues with the knowledge, experience and opportunities needed to help create a more sustainable future.
