E.ON helps power a super-sized celebration at Superhero Tri

Powered by Marvel, Superhero Tri once again put accessibility, teamwork and fun at the heart of the day, giving disabled people and people with long-term conditions the chance to take part in a triathlon their way. With no cut-off times, no restrictions on adaptive equipment and the option to complete the challenge solo, as part of a relay team or with support from Sidekicks, the event continued to show what inclusive sport can look like when barriers are removed.

This year’s milestone event had an extra sense of celebration, with the Superhero Series marking 10 years of creating bold, welcoming and fully accessible sporting missions. From the swim, cycle and push/run stages to the Superhero Village packed with activities and entertainment, the day brought together participants, families, volunteers and partners in a shared celebration of determination, community spirit and the power of taking part.

Recognising the Sidekicks behind the scenes

As part of its continued support for the Superhero Series, E.ON introduced Recharge HQ at this year’s event: a dedicated wellbeing space created for the Sidekick volunteers who help make Superhero Tri possible. Throughout the day, volunteers welcomed participants, supported athletes around the course and helped create the warm, encouraging atmosphere that has become central to the event’s success.

Recharge HQ gave those volunteers somewhere to pause between shifts, with comfortable seating, refreshments and space to rest before heading back out to support the Everyday Superheroes. The hub reflected E.ON’s focus on powering people as well as places, recognising that the energy behind an event like Superhero Tri comes not only from the participants on the course, but from the people working hard behind the scenes.

A decade of inclusive sport

Now in its 10th year, the Superhero Series has helped redefine what mass-participation sport can be by putting disabled people at the centre of the experience. Whether using flippers, floats, adaptive bikes, wheelchairs, powerchairs or support from teammates, participants were encouraged to complete the challenge in the way that worked best for them.

As the anniversary event came to a close, the message from Dorney Lake was clear: Superhero Tri is more than a sporting challenge. It is a celebration of confidence, connection and community — and a reminder that, when access and support are built in from the start, everyone has the chance to find their power.
