Power Pro on the Go and bringing the energy transition home in Coventry North West

What does the energy transition actually look like in a real home, on a real street, with real people? That’s the question at the heart of Power Pro on the Go — a new E.ON UK initiative designed to take the conversation out of policy papers and into everyday life.

Recently, Taiwo Owatemi, MP for Coventry North West, got into an E.ON-branded van to see it in action, with her constituents, for herself.

Picked up by E.ON Meter Technician, Scott Pearson and Policy Advocacy Manager, Andrew Ward, Taiwo began the visit not with a briefing document, but with a conversation. As they travelled through the constituency, the focus was simple: how do the technologies shaping the UK’s energy future actually work for households today?

Their destination was a local home, where the visit centred on one key piece of energy technology – the Smart Meter. Guided by our expert engineer, Taiwo saw first-hand how it works, why it matters, and what it means for the people using it every day. From installation to impact, the explanation was practical, grounded, and focused on real-life benefits, from managing energy use to supporting lower-carbon living.

Scott Somerville, Director of External Affairs at E.ON said: “Power Pro on the Go is about getting out of the meeting room and into the real world. It gives decision makers the chance to see first-hand how these technologies work in people’s homes, to ask questions directly to the engineers delivering them, and to understand not just what we do, but why it matters. By making these conversations practical and grounded, we can build confidence in the role energy innovation plays in supporting customers, communities and the wider transition.”

For Taiwo, the visit was an opportunity to see beyond the headlines and into the detail to understand not just what these technologies are, but how they work for those who live in her constituency.

Taiwo Owatemi, MP for Coventry North West said: “It was great to join E.ON on the ground in Coventry and see first-hand how this partnership with the City Council is working for local people. From smart meters in people’s homes to solar on the CBS Arena and heat pumps at Coundon Family Centre, this is about taking new technology and making it practical and useful across our communities, from households to schools and local businesses.

At a time when many people are worried about the cost of energy, what stood out was how this work helps people better understand their usage and make more informed choices. Seeing it up close, and speaking directly to the engineers delivering it, turns something that can feel complex into something real and accessible.

Coventry is showing how innovation in energy can be brought into everyday life in a way that works for people.”

At a time when national debate is rightly focused on affordability, energy bills, and support schemes, it can be easy for the underlying technologies, like smart meters, EV chargers, solar panels, and low-carbon heating, to feel distant or overly complex. Yet these are the tools that will help deliver a more flexible, resilient, and sustainable energy system.

Power Pro on the Go helps bridge that gap. By connecting policymakers directly with engineers and households, it makes the transition feel tangible, practical, and relevant. It shows that behind every policy discussion is a real home, a real installation, and a real outcome.

Because ultimately, the energy transition isn’t just about systems and strategies. It’s about people and the small, everyday moments where something works, makes sense, and makes a difference.
