Power for the people: how a brighter energy future puts money back in people’s pockets

The energy transition will only succeed if we ensure we take everyone with us on the journey to a new energy world. Vijay Tank, Chief Commercial Officer for Energy Infrastructure Solutions at E.ON UK, highlights some of our customer-focused innovations and how they are putting money back in people’s pockets

“Energy is the heartbeat of our lives, and we have a responsibility to make energy more affordable, to make energy cleaner. “What that means is making bills more affordable for homes and businesses, creating jobs and skills for communities and for the UK, and driving sustainability.”

When we talk about the energy transition, most people think of moving from conventional sources of energy towards renewables like wind, and solar. But the real story is what it means behind the front door – warmer homes, lower bills and extra money staying in people’s pockets.

This shift towards more sustainable energy is not only crucial for environmental reasons, it also offers substantial advantages when it comes to the affordability of energy - becoming a lifeline for households and businesses alike.

This first in a three-part series of videos outlining some of the innovations across E.ON – improving energy for customers, cities and communities, and in UK infrastructure – explores new opportunities such as the support available for vulnerable customers, new insulation and battery measures, as well as a solar trading portal – and how this is making energy fairer, greener and more affordable.

The message is that innovations are doing more than increasing sustainability; they are actively putting money in people’s pockets. By embracing cleaner energy, homes and businesses can enjoy related cost savings, job creation, and increased energy security.

Just some of the projects we’ve delivered so far:

  • Thousands of homes benefiting from insulation and other energy efficiency measures.
  • Helping customers by replacing white goods with more efficient, A-graded appliances, alongside other financial support for people struggling with debt.
  • Helping the most vulnerable customers by providing battery solutions in their homes, allowing them to charge the battery when prices are low, ready for use when prices rise. Early tests show this can reduce electricity costs by up to 30%, saving up to £250 a year on their bills.
  • Our Next Solar Max pilot enables customers with solar and battery systems to take control of their energy and unlock new earning potential by trading power into the grid.

As Vijay says: “There's no trade off here. Driving a cleaner energy transition also means more affordable pricing for our businesses and our homes. It means creating a sustainable future where we make energy affordable and where energy becomes an asset to improve people's lives.”
