npower Business Solutions Foundation: supporting families and young people
The final article in our series about the npower Business Solutions (nBS) Foundation’s five core areas of impact highlights how it’s supporting families and young people in the communities it serves.
As a company that cares about its customers and its communities, nBS launched the nBS Foundation last year. In its first year, the foundation provided £2.8 million to support to 89 projects across the Midlands and Yorkshire – including those that support families and young people.
From improved educational facilities to vital community hubs, the nBS Foundation is investing in projects that enhance wellbeing and foster new opportunities for growth. Here, we share two of the projects to have benefitted from funding through the nBS Foundation and the impact this has had.
Driving brighter futures in Birmingham
King Edward VI Balaam Wood Academy is located in one of Birmingham's most disadvantaged areas and provides a safe and nurturing learning environment where every child is motivated to reach their full potential.
The school's 'brighter futures' project aims to enhance pupils' cultural capital and to facilitate access to these opportunities, the school needed new transportation.
The nBS Foundation stepped in to provide £90,000 of funding, enabling the school to purchase an electric van. Aligned with the school's values of being bold, ambitious, collaborative, and kind, the van is now helping students overcome social challenges, driving inclusion, supporting the school's commitment to sustainability, and ultimately improving the lives of the school’s pupils and their families.
Enhancing facilities for Yorkshire hospice
St Gemma’s Hospice is the largest adult end-of-life service in Yorkshire, supporting more than 3,000 people and their families each year with expert, compassionate palliative care in a safe and comfortable environment.
The hospice’s building management system (BMS) at its Moortown site was nearing the end of its operational lifespan, so the nBS Foundation provided £11,105 towards a new BMS. The system controls the building’s heating, air conditioning, and hot water for the site and this financial support has helped deliver an upgrade that has created a better living space for people with terminal or life-limiting illnesses. The new system has also helped the hospice achieve its sustainability goals.
With a total of £10 million now committed to the nBS Foundation, nBS is proud to continue its support for its communities with funding provided to projects across its five core areas of impact:
- Celebrating environmental sustainability
- Championing diversity and inclusion
- Helping the vulnerable
- Boosting economic and employment opportunities
- Supporting families and young people
