Coventry’s Strategic Energy Partnership opens new chapter with local children’s author, Aaron Ashmore
- Schools across Coventry will receive 1,000 free copies of Aaron Ashmore’s latest book, The Time Travelling Coventry Hotel, reaching every Year 1-6 class in the city
- In the latest chapter of the 15-year E.ON and Coventry City Council partnership, the initiative aims to engage the next generation in reading and the city’s rich history
- The book donation launched at Manor Park Primary School, with copies landing across the city before the new term begins
Coventry author Aaron Ashmore, known for children’s books celebrating the city’s rich heritage, alongside son Oscar and artist Henry, shared their latest title, The Time Travelling Coventry Hotel.
Starting at Manor Park Primary School, Cheylesmore, the book launch also marks the beginning of a new chapter in the 15-year Strategic Energy Partnership (SEP) between E.ON and Coventry City Council. With the first pages turned, 1,000 free copies will reach every Year 1-6 class across the city before a new school year begins.
Author Aaron Ashmore said: “I’m proud to see The Time Travelling Coventry Hotel - my 11th book - included in this brilliant initiative. With the support of E.ON and Coventry City Council, these 1,000 books now add to the 10,000 which have already been donated to local schools, helping ensure classrooms have engaging resources that celebrate our city’s history. These books aim to inspire Coventry’s children to be proud of where they’re from and excited about where they’re going.”
In the past 18 months since the SEP launched, E.ON has also engaged more than 2,000 young minds in Coventry through initiatives such as Net Zero Workshops, Energy Summits, career aspiration sessions and school events.
Natalie Keogh, E.ON UK Director of Cities and Heat Solutions, said: “We’re committed to growing green skills and creating the green jobs needed to cultivate Coventry as an innovative and sustainable city. A key part of this aspiration is developing the talent of tomorrow, and initiatives like our partnership with Aaron Ashmore and the Enterprise Advisor programme help us to do just that.”
As part of an ongoing commitment, E.ON Enterprise Advisors – an employee volunteering programme in schools and colleges which helps to shape career education for pupils – has also supported four secondary schools with school visits and career support.
Cllr Jim O'Boyle, Cabinet Member for Jobs, Regeneration and Climate Change, said: “This initiative, funded by E.ON, is really important. Supporting children to get reading and get reading about the past and future of the city they live in, is really important. Our strategic energy partnership has made this possible and as an added bonus not only are we giving books to schools, we are also supporting a local author and a local artist.
"Coventry has a rich and interesting past. But also, an exciting future. A future of green innovation that will help to provide jobs and opportunities for the next generation and that's at the heart of what the partnership is all about."
