Bluebell Wood’s Christmas tree recycling service returns for festive season
Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice’s annual Recycle Your Christmas Tree service has returned for the forthcoming festive season, giving households the opportunity to support the hospice, the local community and the environment.
Registration for the tree collection service – one of Bluebell Wood’s biggest fundraising initiatives - is open from today (Friday 7 November) with bookings closing on Tuesday 6 January, and tree collection dates starting on Monday 12 January and running until Friday 23 January across Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Chesterfield and parts of North Notts.
E.ON is the charity’s sustainability partner, ensuring 100% of the trees collected are recycled or repurposed, receiving many of the trees to help generate electricity for homes and businesses across the Sheffield City Region.
The annual collection, which is now in its fifth year, is sponsored by glass container manufacturer Beatson Clark, and offers a reliable and environmentally friendly way of disposing of your Christmas tree, helping you declutter at the end of the festivities.
There is a suggested donation of £15 per collection and households have until Tuesday 6 January 2026 to register.
Heidi Hawkins, chief executive at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, said: “Our Christmas tree recycling campaign is a real standout moment in our fundraising calendar.
“We’re proud to collaborate with more than 25 partners, including some of the region’s most forward-thinking and eco-conscious companies to make it happen, supporting us with everything from collecting the trees after the festive season is over, to providing us with space to hold the trees before they go for recycling and, of course, helping us repurpose and reuse what we collect.
“It’s a true reflection of community spirit, growing year after year and making a real difference locally. We want to extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who has recycled or plans to recycle their tree with us, to our sponsors and partners for their expertise and to our wonderful volunteers. Your support makes this possible.”
The Christmas Tree recycling appeal raised more than £48,000 for the charity last year.
Jess Dhariwal, plant manager at E.ON’s Blackburn Meadows biomass energy plant, said: “We’re delighted to once again support Bluebell Wood’s Christmas tree recycling campaign. This initiative truly reflects our commitment at Blackburn Meadows to both sustainability and community. Recycling Christmas trees and raising funds for Bluebell Wood is a fantastic way to come together and give back during the festive season.”
Eddie Pickering, managing director at sponsor Beatson Clark, said “We’re proud to continue our support for Bluebell Wood’s Christmas tree recycling campaign again, helping people across the region to dispose of their used Christmas tree in an environmentally-friendly way, while generating vital funds for the hospice, too.”
Bluebell Children’s Hospice opened in 2008 and has supported hundreds of children from across South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire, North Nottinghamshire and parts of North Lincolnshire.
