How E.ON helps Tesco checkout energy waste across more than 2,900 stores
From remote monitoring to actionable insight, our energy management centre helps Tesco keep efficiency high on the agenda and waste off the shelves.
50% off always sounds like a bargain. Even more so when it comes to reducing energy and maintenance bills at one of the nation’s favourite supermarkets.
Tesco operates one of the UK's largest retail estates. Managing energy use at that scale takes more than visibility alone, it demands the right systems, accurate insight and the ability to act quickly so efficiency improvements don't get left in the basket.
Our E.ON Control Solutions team have worked with Tesco for more than 17 years on large-scale, multi-site projects. Today, more than 2,900 Tesco stores are connected to our 24/7/365 Energy Management Centre (EMC) in Glasgow, giving Tesco the monitoring and insight needed to support energy efficiency across its estate. That robust energy data also plays an important role in Tesco's science-based approach to reducing carbon emissions and reaching net zero by 2050.
Using data to make smarter decisions across the shop floor
Our energy management systems give Tesco access to dashboards that bring together data from stores across its estate, providing detailed site-level consumption insights. Continuous monitoring helps identify inefficiencies, spot opportunities and prioritise where action is needed most.
From there, we can help implement changes, carry out remote fixes and measure the financial and operational impact of the improvements made – every little thing helping to reduce waste and focus on the changes that offer the biggest value in store.
"What sets Tesco apart is its understanding of the value of energy data and, just as importantly, its ability to turn insight into action through real operational decisions and projects.
“This level of control gives Tesco visibility of the health of its estate and its energy consumption profiles, helping the business optimise performance and reduce energy use in support of its net zero ambitions.” Gordon Cameron, Head of EMC at E.ON Control Solutions
We work closely with Tesco's maintenance teams to support energy and in-store improvements while helping maintain a comfortable environment for shoppers.
We also track carbon-saving initiatives in real time, including projects such as store re-engineering.
By managing energy costs and prioritising proactive maintenance, E.ON Control Solutions helped Tesco to achieve 50% of its annual energy reduction through remote connectivity initiatives and maintenance.
More broadly, our building management engineers support more than 5,500 business sites across the UK, all remotely managed through the Energy Management Centre (EMC) in Glasgow.
The EMC and its expert team use the power of data, knowledge and experience to ensure each building is controlled, managed, and efficiently run, ensuring the balance between operations and energy efficiency.
